I recently went on vacation and ran out of reading material. I know. Yikes. Thank goodness for Overdrive! I found the Matched series while sitting in an airport in Houston. You have to love online resources.
I don’t know why it took so long for me to discover this dystopian trilogy by Ally Condie. It has some of my favorite elements of a dystopian read. A strong female character, romance, and an evil “Society” that controls everyone.
If you are like me and enjoy stories about rebels and overthrowing society, you may have already read the Lunar Chronicle series by Marissa Meyer. I was drawn into this series by the art work on the cover of the first book, Cinder. This was Ms. Meyer’s debut novel and congrats to her on a great first book. You can see on the book covers that each book is created around a fairy tale character. I love, love, love fractured fairy tales!
I also found an exciting new book while browsing our physical collection. Night Sky by Suzanne Brockmann and her daughter Melanie Brockman is part fantasy, horror, and romance. All the elements of a great read. This is the first book in a series that promises to be excellent. The first few pages of the book grab you in a wild (and awesome) ride. There is some horrifying imagery though, so if you are squeamish, this may not be the book for you.
The second book is out, Wild Sky which I’m eager to read next!
Enjoy your summer reading about rebels and if you have some recommendations for me, please let me know, I’d love to hear about them.
