2016 Book Spine Poetry Contest

Welcome to the 2016 Teen Summer Reading Club

What is Book Spine Poetry?

Book Spine Poetry is a fantastic way to play with books! Your best bet for this contest will be to head on down to your local library branch where the possibilities are nearly endless! Let your imagination get the best of you while scanning the shelves to create your book spine poem – or, feel free to use books you have lying around the house.  Stack up a pile of books and let the titles create a new poem or message. Take a picture of your best poem and send it in! What titles will you string together to create the best book spine poem? Check out the July/August cover of At the Library for one example and here are some more examples below from our Youth Advisory Council members.

Note: You must be a member of the Booked site in order to submit contest entries. Not a member? Sign up!

2016 Contest Rules

***ALL CONTESTS OPEN JULY 4, 2016***

An "entry" is a photograph, photograph of artwork, book review, short story, poem, or photograph of book spine poetry submitted online to Booked.

Teen Summer Reading Club contests and prizes are open to youth in grades 7-12 only. Teens who are entering grade 7 in Fall 2016 or who have graduated grade 12 in June 2016 are welcome to participate.
Children aged 12 and under are welcome to participate in our TD Summer Reading Club and programs.

All contest entries must be new to the Booked site and must be your own creative work. Any duplicate entries submitted to the site will be deleted.

Inappropriate content will not be posted. All submissions must follow Winnipeg Public Library's Social Software Guidelines.

Photograph entries must not include any faces.

Winnipeg Public Library may excerpt or re-format entries before publishing them on Booked.

Submissions will be judged based on quality and creativity. A winner in each contest category will be selected after August 23. Winners will be notified by e-mail.

Participants may submit one entry per day, per category. If multiple entries are submitted in one day, only the first entry of the day will be posted. All other submissions from that day will not be posted and will not be eligible for the contest.

All teens in grades 7-12 may enter; however, staff of Winnipeg Public Library are not eligible to win prizes.

Active participants (those who either A) participated in any of the weekly trivia, B) entered any of the 6 summer-long contests or C) completed the end-of-summer survey) will be entered into a final, random draw for the Grand Prize after August 28. Participants will be allotted a maximum of: one ballot per contest category entered, one ballot per weekly trivia contest entered and one ballot for completing the end-of-summer survey.

Prize winners must be able to pick up their prize at one of Winnipeg Public Library's 20 branches or 4 mobile sites (during the time of a scheduled mobile library visit).
