Book Review: Magonia

magonia

Magonia
by Maria Dahvana Headley
My rating for this book: 5 stars out of 5

The writing style that the author used for this book is so effective. It demonstrates the thought process of the characters and transports you into the world of Magonia. I found the storyline in this book was very unique and that drew me to it. I find it’s harder and harder to find books that grab me right off the bat, and this one did the job perfectly. The emotions portrayed in Magonia are so pure that I was on an emotional rollercoaster throughout the whole time I was reading it. That, in my opinion, is what a book should do, and Magonia does it best.

The choices the characters make throughout Magonia are so relatable. They seem as if they are real people around you in your everyday life but yet there’s this air of magic that is continuously swirling around the story. Aza, the protagonist, is so straightforward and blunt but her character is so likable, relatable and enjoyable to read. Along with Jason, who can be described as unique and perfect for Aza in every way possible, is so -for lack of better words- real that these characters fly off the pages.

This was definitely one of my top summer reads this year. I recommend it to people who like fantasy, fiction, and adventure. There is a little romance as well that could appeal to others. (Can’t wait for the sequel Aerie either!)

In general, this book should be read by everyone that can read and enjoyed by all book lovers.
