I envy the attention
and how everyone knows their names.
I envy their knowledge of gossip
and little secrets revealed.
I envy their close friendships
and cliques.
But I know I shouldn’t envy
their popularity.
What I should do is look around
and see my real friends there,
who I laugh with and cry with
and comfort,
who I care for and enjoy spending time with,
who isn’t a façade behind a title but a friend
who cares for me.
