  1. The Hunger Games

The classic, synonymous-with, most popular dystopian novel for good reason!

  2. All Good Children

An awesome read-alike to The Hunger Games, it focuses on the concept of freedom in a not-so-distant future. Bonus: It's by a Canadian (!!) author!

  3. Bumped

Another awesome dystopian read that deals with teens, reproductive rights, and the power of the media in a compelling, interesting future.

  4. Thumped

The sequel to Bumped, it's equally excellent (or, dare I say it, better) than the original, something not every book or movie can claim. Best of all, you don't even need to read the original first to understand!

  5. Beauty Queens

Ms. Bray known as an accomplished author for good reason, and her foray into dystopian fiction is equally good. It's like the future of Toddlers and Tiaras, Facebook, and major corporations rolled into one hilarious, interesting read!

  6. The Giver

The classic dystopian read that started it all!

  7. 1984

Another classic that really makes you think about supervision and constant monitering (Reader's Warning: Facebook will NEVER look the same again!)

  8. Life As We Knew It

This novel seems a bit less scientifically based (in comparison) to the rest of the novels on this list, but I love how it focuses on what happens to the family dynamic in the face of tragedy.

  9. The Selection

I can't personally testify for this one, but every friend who has read it has loved it, so I figured it should make this list. Focusing on caste systems and the future of royalty, it seems like an intriguing read!

  10. A Clockwork Orange

Again, I have heard this is an awesome read! Focusing on youth rebellion (often using violence) it's not exactly a YA novel by any stretch of the imagination, but an awesome dystopian read nonetheless!

10 Amazing Series

by The Sparkly Ninja

  1. The Thief Series

A fantasy adventure series that takes place in a very complex world. The characters are lovable and and very colourful. First book is The Thief.

  2. Harry Potter

For lovers of classic magic with plenty of wand waving and potion brewing. First book is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

  3. Seven Kingdoms Trilogy

Amazingly thrilling. Three books that each focus on a different character are well written, well thought out and full of fantasy goodness. First book is Graceling.

  4. The Books of Bayern

The first book is based off of a fairytale, but the author liked the world she had created so much that she wrote more. Magical, with a hint of romance, true coming of age novels. First book is The Goose Girl.

  5. The Lord of The Rings

It's The Lord of The Rings, enough said. First book is The Hobbit.

  6. The Inheritance Cycle

Although the first book is a bit shaky, this series of dragons and old legends come to life is a fun read. First book is Eragon.

  7. The Giver Series

Slightly dark and more sci-fi than fantasy, these dystopian novels are incredible. First book is The Giver.

  8. Percy Jackson and The Olympians

Fun, written for a younger audience, but none the less fun. Full of gods and magic and good ole good vs evil action. First book is The Lightning Thief.

  9. Bartimaeus Trilogy

A little odd, a little quirky, with a lot of magic. The books revolve around a demon and the boy who summons him. First book is The Amulet of Samarkand.

  10. Artemis Fowl

Who doesn't love a super genius who turns super villain? The escapades of Artemis, Butler, and Holly, although written for younger readers, are still hilarious. First book is Artemis Fowl.
